Mercedes-AMG is starting the new roadster season in an incomparable style. Following the launch of the SL63 AMG, the first eight-cylinder model, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer is now introducing the new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, a V12 roadster.
The new model boasts an intelligent, lightweight construction that helps to decrease fuel consumption. It uses 11.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (NEDC combined), which represents a significant improvement of 2.4 liters or 17 percent as compared to the previous SL65 AMG. It also sets a new standard in the petrol engine segment with twelve cylinders.
To reduce fuel consumption, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, the ECO start/stop-function, various in-engine measures to optimize efficiency, and alternator management all play a major role. Despite the impressive reduction in fuel consumption, the maximum output of the AMG V12 6-liter biturbo engine has increased from 450 kW (612 hp) to 463 kW (630 hp), with the maximum torque remaining at 1000 newton meters.
