Nearly 50% of the vehicles sold in the Indian market are hatchbacks. The Maruti Suzuki and the Hyundai are the leading brands in this segment. In order to replace their aging cars the Tata Motors India Limited has unveiled a hatchback during the 2014 Indian auto expo. Named after the sprinter Ussain Bolt the Tata Bolt has been launched on 22nd January 2015. The car is getting average sales so far.
Variants and prices
The Bolt comes in 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants in trims of XE, XM, XMS and XT in petrol and diesel. All the variants have manual transmission only. The petrol variants are priced Rupees 4.45 to 6.00 lakh and the diesel variants rupees 5.50 to 7.00 lakh.
Exteriors
The Tata Bolt comes in body colours of sky grey, dune beige, Venetian red, platinum silver and pristine white. The Bolt made on the X1 platform has similar looks of the Tata Indica Vista, but has more style than all other Tata cars. An aggressive grille, projector type LED head lamps, more rounded features at the rear and high and low mounted stop lamps give the car a premium look. Interiors
The black and white cabin of the has standard features like an engine immobiliser, central locking with key, child lock facilities, a tilt and power steering, a manual AC, vinyl seats and internally adjustable ORVMs. Top variants have remote central locking, an automatic AC, 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, fabric seats, electrically operated body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators and a 2 Din music system with touch screen controls and Bluetooth connectivity.
Engines and mileages
The petrol variants of the Bolt are powered by 1193 cc, 89 bhp and 140 NM torque engines giving mileages of 17.57 kmpl. The diesel variants of the Bolt have 1248 cc, 74 bhp and 190 NM torque engines with mileages of 22.95 kmpl. The drive is 5 gear manual and the minimum turning radius is 5.1 m.

The Tata Bolt is a differently styled hatchback car from the TMIL. The cabins of the Bolt are spacious and loaded with features. Good mileages, affordable prices and quality rides are the plus points of the Bolt. A bigger boot and introduction of auto variants will make it more competitive.
